Hair Products Lawyer in San Diego

We here, at The Mitchell Firm, understand that being diagnosed with Cancer is complicated enough. So why should you have to be concerned with the hair products manufacturers sell you? Did anyone tell you that complications could arise from purchasing and using hair products that are meant to make women feel more confident and beautiful within society’s standards?

Beauty should not cost you your life.

For decades, Women used hair straightening, permanent dyes, and/or relaxer products to make their hair, and themselves, feel more beautiful. Unaware that frequent use of these products containing hazardous chemicals could contribute to Cancer later down the line. If you or a loved one used hair products and later were diagnosed with Cancer, The Mitchell Firm can help!

Studies Indicate Manufacturers May Be at Fault

Hair chemical products (relaxers, permanent dyes, and straightening) show an increased risk of Cancer, according to recent studies.

Hair Straightening and relaxer products sold by manufacturers and commonly used by women are currently being studied to determine if the use of certain products led to an increased risk of cancer in women.

A major study by the National Institute of Health found that women who frequently have been exposed to hair-straightening products were at a higher risk of developing uterine cancer than women who did not.

The Sister Study studied over 33,497 female participants ages 35 to 74, to look at risk factors for breast cancer and other health problems. At least 378 women were diagnosed with uterine cancer over the course of 11 years.

It concluded that women who received hair relaxer treatments, at least 4 times a year, had a 3x greater risk of uterine cancer, which is distressing considering that a previous study found a 30% increased risk of breast cancer.

According to a study by researcher Chandra Jackson at the National Institute of Health, “Sixty percent of the participants who reported using straighteners were Black women. The bottom line is that the exposure burden appears to be higher among Black women,”

Even though the study did not determine that the relationship between straightener and cancer was any different by race, it warned that due to a higher frequency of use, the effects could be more pronounced for black women.

Civil rights attorney Ben Crum says…

“Black hair has been and always will be beautiful, but Black women have been told they have to use these products to meet society’s standards… These companies aggressively misled black women to increase their profits.”

“Black women have long been the victims of dangerous products specifically marketed to them.”

What does this mean for you?

Manufacturers are now facing lawsuits across the country, over failure to warn women about the cancer risks associated with exposure to toxic chemicals in products and the results might have a greater impact on Black women….

… And manufacturers must pay.

The time to act is now.
